Title:

Payroll Accountant

KBR is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join the Global Payroll Accounting team in Chennai, India. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of payroll accounting activities across a complex global organization.

 The successful candidate will work closely with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, and other stakeholders to support accurate financial reporting and drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain payroll-related general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries, including wages, taxes, benefits, accruals, and other compensation-related transactions.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of payroll accounts, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, schedules, and analyses.
  • Assist with payroll system implementations, upgrades, testing, and data validation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and control enhancements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of payroll accounting, general accounting, or related finance experience in a corporate environment.

Preferred experiences

  • Experience with payroll and ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, Workday Payroll, ADP, or SAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power BI and data analysis tools.
  • Effective communication skills in English with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a large, complex, matrixed organization supporting multiple business units.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll funding, benefits remittances, and statutory payments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration.
  • Familiarity with payroll interfaces, system integrations, and data flow between payroll and ERP platforms.
