Job Description: Safety Manager
 

Position Overview

The Safety Manager leads health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives across JLL's Project & Development Services portfolio. This role ensures all projects maintain the highest safety standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and foster a culture of safety excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
 

Key Responsibilities
 

Safety Leadership and Oversight Provide comprehensive safety support across all projects, ensuring adherence to JLL standards and local safety regulations. Conduct safety review meetings with project and design teams during initial project phases to identify potential hazards and establish safety protocols from the outset.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation Ensure all high-risk activities have proper Safety Work Method Statements (SWMS) in place. Perform thorough site inspections, generate risk reports, and implement timely safety-related corrections. Identify potential safety hazards and develop proactive mitigation strategies to eliminate workplace incidents.

Site Safety Management Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with safety plans and regulations. Facilitate weekly safety meetings with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Monitor jobsite conditions continuously and coordinate with project managers and operations managers to maintain safe working environments.

Safety Program Development Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures. Ensure project-specific safety plans align with both JLL standards and client requirements. Stay current with evolving safety regulations and integrate best practices into organizational protocols.

Incident Management Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. Document all safety incidents, near-misses, and observations. Track safety metrics and prepare regular reports for leadership and clients.

Training and Education Create safety awareness and educate personnel and stakeholders through consistent communication of success stories and best practices. Provide regular mentoring and coaching to safety officers and non-safety professionals. Deliver safety training programs and ensure all team members understand their safety responsibilities.

Stakeholder Coordination Build strong relationships with project managers, contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities. Serve as the primary safety contact for all project stakeholders. Facilitate collaboration between teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.

Compliance and Documentation Obtain and maintain relevant professional safety licenses and certifications. Ensure all project documentation meets regulatory requirements. Manage safety-related permits, approvals, and regulatory submissions.
 

Qualifications
 

Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Minimum 10 years of experience in construction safety management, with demonstrated expertise in commercial real estate or large-scale construction projects.

Professional Credentials Valid safety license required (specific requirements vary by location). Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent strongly preferred. First Aid and CPR certification required.

Technical Expertise Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety systems, processes, tools, and best practices. Deep understanding of local and national safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards. Proven experience developing and implementing safety management systems.

Core Competencies Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail for identifying safety risks and business needs. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to convey safety information clearly to diverse audiences. Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to influence behavior and drive cultural change. Strong relationship-building capabilities with proven track record of effective stakeholder engagement.
Personal Attributes Proactive and solutions-oriented mindset. Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure. Strong ethical standards and commitment to safety excellence. Collaborative approach with openness to suggestions and knowledge exchange.

Working Conditions

This role requires extensive time on active construction sites with exposure to various weather conditions and construction environments. Must be able to navigate construction sites safely, climb ladders, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Some travel between project sites may be required.
